What’s New at Scenic Pointe

Scenic Pointe Nursing and Rehab in Millersburg is not just your typical nursing home. Scenic has exceptional staff members that enjoy learning and teaching one another. In addition to their preexisting staff, Scenic hosts monthly classes for STNAs in multiple FHS buildings. Recently, the MDS (Minimum Data Set) Department has found ways to make learning fun and rewarding for STNAs, new and old.

Scenic’s MDS Team has come up with “Question of the Week”. They have a bulletin board outside their office that holds the weekly question. There is a new question placed every Monday that runs through Sunday. There are slips for STNAs to write down their answers and return them to the MDS Department. Every Monday, the slips are read to see who got the correct answers. The STNAs with the correct answers are then placed in a bucket separated by days and nights. There is one winner, each who receives a gift. There is no limit on how many times you can win!

The MDS Department has been working hard to create fun ways to educate the staff while making genuine connections. One of their learning goals was to teach STNAs the proper way to code ADLs while making it engaging and competitive. MDS was also looking at how to improve the ADL charting from STNAs that will go along with their quarterly meetings. As a way to make their meetings more personal, one of their team members dresses up as a resident, and the STNAs have to perform certain ADLs on them and tell the MDS how they would code the assistance in the computer. The MDS focuses on different ADLs at each meeting. So far, the STNAs have really enjoyed this hands-on experience and made great progress.
